As Richard Soweda, Festival Director of Revelation and XR:WA explains, all XR:WA events are designed to explore immersive technologies in a way never before presented in WA. “We want to remove the barriers between cinema, art, industry, research, science and technology and entertainment, while showcasing locally developed technology and productions in a mix of expo-style events and public activities across Perth and Fremantle.”

The core of the event is a 3-day conference at the Pan Pacific Hotel with exhibitions, masterclasses, keynote speakers, panels and B2B networking opportunities, as well as curated experiences at the Fremantle Maritime Museum, Studio Startup, The HIVE, and Sunset Studio. To find out more about the event, you can see the full program guide or buy individual tickets to the events.

Highlights include keynote speakers from Microsoft, expert panels and events including:

Ready Team One (Multiplayer free-roaming VR game)

Large scale free-roam, vibrant and spectacular visualisations and full body immersion makes this a truly unique multiplayer cooperative experience that will have you gasping for more! Created right here in Perth, this special experience will have you looking at the future of games in a very different light.

Applying VR/AR In Business (Workshop)

Have you been wondering how your business or institution could make use of immersive technology, but not sure where to start? Virtual Guest Founder and Executive Producer Brandon D’Silva uses real-world examples of how immersive technology such as virtual and augmented reality can be implemented in business and education.

This 1-hour workshop and Q&A is suitable for diverse groups including content creators, educators, SME’s and marketers.

Spacecubed Games & Experience Emporium

Featuring a diverse range of mostly locally produced works, this section of the conference and expo features the playable, the wearable and the tactile all in one spot at one time. It’s a place where you can meet the makers, discover the unexpected and experience the breadth and depth works from WA creatives alongside with a good dash of their national and international comrades.

One of the great things about this space is you’re in it with the makers themselves so if you’re wanting to develop a career in design, programming, directing or conceptualising these kind of works, you won’t get a better opportunity.

360 VR Cinema: RONE

This VR experience also transports the viewer into the world famous street artist RONE’s exhibition and inside his studio, giving them a front-row seat to the artistic process behind his epic murals. Most of the murals and buildings in the experience have since been destroyed. Through RONE, you can now experience these lost works again.

The interactive RONE experience consists of a virtual gallery where you wander through and explore Rone’s works on the walls and listen to an audio tour. At the end of the gallery you find a large orb where the 360’ video documentary begins, where new rooms are unlocked to explore.

The award winning RONE has toured to festivals around the world including SXSW, Cannes NEXT and the New York Film Festival.
